Description: The Performance Demonstration Initiative (PDI) Procedure Nos. PDI-UT-1, Rev. C, Fig. 4 (Ferritic), and PDI-UT-2, Rev. C, Fig. 4 are followed in the fabrication of PDI Alternative ASME blocks (Austenitic). These cover the standard techniques for ultrasonically inspecting pipe welds made of ferritic and austenitic metal. The blocks provide a cost-effective substitute for constructing several curved calibration blocks (pipe sections) in various diameters and wall thicknesses.
Geometry: Steps that simulate wall thicknesses of 0.500", 1.000", 1.500," and 2.000" make up the block design. A.010 is present in each step "Wide EDM notch that is 10% of the wall thickness deep and runs the length of the step. surfaces for scanning and reflecting are fabricated to resemble pipe and plate surfaces with a maximum polish of 250 Ra.
