PIE GAUGE
calibration block
The pie gauge consists of a highly permeable disc that has non-ferromagnetic material dividing it into four, six, or eight parts. The divisions act as manufactured flaws that project outward from the core in various directions. The low carbon steel pie portions must have partitions no wider than 1/32 inch. The parts are copper-plated and furnace brazed. The test piece is magnetised and the gauge is placed on its copper side up. The inspector can determine the magnetic field's orientation using the indications after applying the particles and removing the surplus. Dry powder is utilised with flat surfaces like weldments or steel castings as the primary use.
